THE PARIS LETTER: The Experimental Cocktail Club

Boy, I have been boozing it up this month. All that free babysitting provided by my visiting mom has allowed me to continue my search for the perfect Paris martini, and this time Matt joined in the fun.

From the Time Out France review, since our cameras wouldn't work in the dark
Do you ever wish you could bring the feel of Williamsburg, Brooklyn to your Paris life? If you're visiting from the US, probably not, but Matt and I sometimes long for a Paris/New York mashup, and we've definitely found it in this cocktail bar, The Experimental Cocktail Club.

Located just north of Les Halles, in an area of narrow cobblestone streets that always makes me feel like I'm walking through medieval Paris, The Experimental Cocktail Club is appropriately discreet but thankfully has no secret entrance, just a black facade with some subtle lettering. Once you enter, its a a great combination of New York speakeasy - complete with a piano in the  corner - and Parisian charm, chandeliers and exposed beams on the walls and ceiling. Matt immediately started speculating about what had been in the space before, as he noticed a patched hole in the ceiling that had clearly once been a staircase.

We arrived at 7PM on a Saturday night, which in my mind is perfect cocktail hour. But then, I'm married and have a baby, so I'm not the most exciting person you'll meet. For us, it was great - the place was nearly empty, yet it was still late enough to feel like a romantic beginning to our date. By the time we left around 830, though, it was standing-room-only packed, so keep that in mind as you plan your trip.

The cocktail list is complicated, as expected, but - hooray! - they did make an honest-to-god, not-too-much-vermouth gin martini with olives that was really good, though served in a crystal goblet rather than a martini glass. Which I think is like a hipster choice rather than a Parisian misstep.

Since I was feeling under the weather, I got a slightly less strong drink that was similar to a whiskey sour but with Japanese whiskey, lime juice, and yuzu - very delicious, though I can't tell you the name because the Club, well, it doesn't publish its menu. I CAN tell you that you will be paying 12 Euros a cocktail - so, you know, New York prices. But trust me - go early and you won't be disappointed.

  1. Balotelli rules out 10 days due to shoulder injury

Agen Bola terpercaya indo11.com reported, Mario Balotelli, a striker of Milan, will rule out for around 10 days because of his shoulder injury, the club announced.
Mario Balotelli, 23, was substituted 12 minutes from time in Milan's 1-0 UEFA Champions League defeat against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday,.
The club confirmed that the 23-year-old will miss the trip to Sampdoria on Sunday and faces a race against time to be fit to face leaders Juventus seven days later, as reported by Agen Judi terpercaya indo11.com.
"AC Milan wishes to communicate that in yesterday evening's match, Mario Balotelli suffered a shoulder injury," the club’s statement said.
"The player visited with professor Alessandro Castagna today and recovery time has been estimated at around 10 days without unforeseen complications."

  2. Benitez praises Napoli’s defensive action

Agen Bola terpercaya indo11.com reported, Rafael Benitez, a coach of Napoli, has praised his club’s defensive work after their 0-0 draw at Swansea City in the UEFA Europa League.
Napoli went into Thursday's last 32 first leg encounter as favourites, but were somewhat lucky to come away from the Liberty Stadium.
A draw leaves the tie well balanced ahead of the return leg at Stadio San Paolo in a week's time and Benitez was "satisfied" with the clean sheet, as reported by Agen Judi terpercaya indo11.com.
"I said beforehand it would be a difficult game, as the British game is more intense and fast-paced. We played well in the first half, but Swansea were pressing us well," Benitez said.
"The positives are that we did not concede a goal and the team worked well when defending."
"Of course there are risks. Swansea have quality, but we must attack and win. Swansea know that and will try to be dangerous on the counter-attack with the spaces we leave," he added.

  3. Conte happy after Juventus' 2-0 win over Trabzonspor

Agen Bola terpercaya indo11.com reported, Antonio Conte, a manager of Jurventus, has revealed that he is satisfied by Juventus' 2-0 UEFA Europa League win over Trabzonspor.
The hosts made the most of their reprieve as Paul Pogba curled home a second in injury time, but Conte was quick to concede that he would have preferred to travel to Turkey for the return leg next week with a bigger lead, as reported by Agen Judi terpercaya indo11.com.
"We wasted a lot of chances in the first half, due to good goalkeeping and our own shortcomings, but did well to keep going and get the second," the manager said.
"We wanted another goal and introduced a third striker. We did well in the end, hitting the post before grabbing our second."
He added, "We did well, but there is still another game to play. We got too stretched out in the second half when pushing hard for another goal."

  4. Debuchy unsure about his future at Newcastle

Agen Bola terpercaya indo11.com reported, Mathieu Debuchy, a defender of Newcastle United, says he is in doubts about his future at the club while he is refusing to miss a move to PSG.

"PSG? I am here until the end of the season and for next year, I do not know," the 28-year-old said.
"This is a great loss for us so obviously I was sad but I'm happy for him because PSG is a great club."

  5. Fulham’s manager says form must be changed

Agen Bola terpercaya indo11.com reported, Felix Magath, a manager of Fulham, believes that the management must be changed in order to keep the club in the Premier League.
Magath, who took the reins at Craven Cottage on Friday, with former head coach Rene Meulensteen, along with assistant Ray Wilkins and technical director Alan Curbishley, feels his arrival can spark an upturn in form for Fulham, who are bottom of the league and four points adrift of safety, as reported by Agen Judi terpercaya indo11.com.
"I was sacked a few times also. I know the situation. I'm sorry for each coach. It was late to change the team and change the atmosphere to have a chance to stay in the league," the manager said.
"It doesn't look like it worked well enough so I don't care about the reason for the manager before (why he was sacked). I don't know what he had done; I don't care.
He added, "I don't care about the past; I have not an interest in the past. I'm here since last Friday and I look forward. I look at where we are at the moment and then I think how we can improve."
